Amongst the various symptoms (and these can be very wide ranging) that bring people to Alexander lessons is one of dissatisfaction with posture. We would recognise that habitual misuse patterns may well be the underlying cause, in fact we say that 'use' influences functioning, and it is not too difficult to see how this could apply to our own health and well-being.

In Alexander work, while letting go of some old habits, the pupil is learning a new relationship of the head, neck and back and we see this as fundamental to any improvement in 'use' as a whole.

Once the new relationship starts to become established it is not only a valuable asset for everyday life but also has been found especially applicable to a wide variety of skilled activities, not least in vocal and instrumental performance, and sports - such as horse riding, golf, swimming etc.

Lessons are around 40 minutes duration and in the early stages especially need to be on a regular basis, at least once a week to start with.

John Edwards qualified to teach in 1987, and often gives lecture/demonstrations and group introductory courses.
